The Shire Run – Cronulla to Kogarah Bay

Written by:

This is a long track from Cronulla to Kogarah Bay then back, along the Woolooware Bay cycleway. The total length is around 21k, out and back. This is highly recommended for weekend long runs or walks along the esplanade.

There were ample street parkings at Endeavour Road, which was one of the streets next to the entry for Woolooware Bay Shared Pathway. Lots of tall trees alongside in the first 2 km, which provided perfect shade. As the path went further down to Taren Point, it became less shady and more sunny. Taren Point was a nice spot for a short toilet break as the bathrooms there were nice and clean!

It was during sunset when I did the run, the water reflection of the sun made the whole scenery spectacular. Wish I had my sunglasses/ visor on at the time as the sun did get a bit glary.

Further down from the path was a little turn to get to the bridge on Rocky Point Road, which connects Kurnell and Sans Souci over the Georges River. Another peaceful and calming waterview. I continued to run towards Kogarah Bay and headed back via the Princess Highway bridge. That was when I stopped enjoying the view as it was SO HILLY at the end that it became a torture! The temperature dropped drastically after dawn, together with the fact that I did not refuel during the run, my body got colder and colder towards the end…

Overall, this run was at moderate difficulty due to the elevations and weather, however the views were worth the grind! I highly recommend this path if you are looking for a chill and relaxed coastal run/ walk ~~~
